This week the weather has been heating up…which we have NO complaints about. It’s officially transitioning from spring to summer…which means longer warmer nights…and more evenings on our balcony taking in the sunset and the view.
We have also been hitting the triathlon pretty hard – again this coincides with the warmer weather – it’s not difficult to go out and train when you’re in vests and shorts. The tri club we have joined (tri – alliance) happen to train in our local 50m pool…well it has several pools…2 of which are 50m. This week was our first session in the outdoor pool – it was incredible. Sun setting as you swim – it was just beautiful. It was a definite pinch me moment, and a huge justification to us as to why we moved over here. To train in a 50m outdoor pool, as our local pool, several times a week is just luxury. No regrets yet!
We also carried out a number of other sessions with the club this week – some turbo (or wind trainer as called here) sessions indoors (sweatfest). We also did some combos (mix of everything) and also a long ride on the Sunday ending up on the beach. Not bad. Not bad at all. Still….we don’t like to gloat too much! Our winter will come!
Jonney also headed to Sydney for the day this week for work, which was pretty exciting. Air travel here is like catching a train (no turning up 2 hours before) and so easy. However going back and forth in a day was pretty intense.
We also went to a few more social occasions over the weekend, so again packing it all in! work/play/triathlon….in any order!
Sunday saw the first outing of the picnic hamper where we ventured down to Brighton beach….which is a few beaches along from ours…and has the famous brightly coloured beach huts. Needless to say it was blissful. Weather was amazing…just got hotter….and the views were incredible. It did pack out a bit during the end of the day (I think everyone had the same idea) and we DEFINITELY underestimated the strength of the Aussie sun (new sun cream please) but was a good day out. Jonney even ventured out for another swim, and confirmed to Kat every reason why she stayed on shore but seeing a huge jellyfish float up towards him and then swimming over a stingray. Needless to say he didn’t quite swim out as far as he intended, and his swim back to shore was a whole lot quicker than his swim out!
